When it comes to the difference between platform sourcing and traditional sourcing, I have a practical analogy: it's like ride-hailing apps versus long-term car rentals. Using an app is convenient for occasional trips, but if you need to travel the same route every day, it’s better to negotiate a long-term agreement with a reliable fleet.

So why do seasoned buyers like us still stay on the front lines? Because some things simply can’t be fully grasped through a screen. For example:

Assessing a factory’s "vital signs" – The cleanliness of the workshop floor, the way seasoned craftsmen mentor their apprentices—these details often speak louder than certifications.

Calculating the "total cost" – The ex-factory price is just the beginning. Costs like mold fees, packaging modifications, and quality inspections are often overlooked in platform inquiries.

Viewing cooperation as a "long-term partnership" – The supplier I’ve worked with the longest has become an old friend—I even attended his child’s wedding. Such relationships are invaluable when rushing deadlines or resolving quality issues.

Last year, I handled a case for a German client: a manufacturer they found on a platform delivered a 98% pass rate for the first batch, but by the third bulk order, key components had been stealthily replaced. It was only discovered because of our local quality inspector.
So, both approaches have their place. Here’s my advice:
